Gupta brings a wealth of experience to the ICC, having served as CEO, Sports & Live Experiences, at JioStar. His career spans over two decades in media, entertainment, and sports. Gupta's journey began in journalism, leading him to Star India in 2010, where he held various leadership positions focused on content and strategy. In 2020, he became Head of Sports at Disney & Star India. Following the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star, Gupta was appointed CEO of JioStar Sports in 2024.

"I am delighted to announce Sanjog Gupta as the CEO of the ICC," stated ICC Chairman Jay Shah. "Sanjog's extensive background in sports strategy and commercialization will be invaluable to the ICC."

Shah further emphasized Gupta's understanding of the global sports and M&E landscape, combined with his passion for cricket fans and technology, as essential for the ICC's ambition to grow the game. He highlighted the goal of establishing cricket as a regular sport in the Olympics, expanding its global reach and strengthening its presence in core markets.

"We considered several outstanding candidates for this role, but the Nominations Committee unanimously recommended Sanjog. The ICC Board Directors are eager to collaborate with him, and I extend a warm welcome on behalf of the entire ICC," Shah added.

The selection process, initiated in March 2025, involved a global search that attracted over 2,500 applications from 25 countries. The ICC's HR & Remuneration Committee narrowed the field to 12 candidates, who were further evaluated by a Nominations Committee comprising ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, ECB Chair Richard Thompson, SLC President Shammi Silva, and BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia. The ICC Board unanimously approved Gupta's nomination after the final assessment.

"It's a privilege to receive this opportunity, especially at a time when cricket is poised for unprecedented growth and benefits from the passionate support of nearly 2 billion fans worldwide," said Sanjog Gupta, the newly appointed ICC CEO. "These are exciting times for the sport as marquee events grow in stature, commercial opportunities expand, and the women's game gains popularity. Cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the rapid advancement of technology could significantly amplify the sport's global movement."

Gupta concluded, "I am eager to contribute to cricket's next phase of evolution, expanding its global footprint, enhancing the fan experience, and collaborating with ICC Member Boards to build on our solid foundations."
