Saif Ali Khan's Infamous Langda Tyagi May Return in 'Omkara' Spin-Off

Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Omkara', starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Bipasha Basu, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Naseeruddin Shah, released in 2006. The film brought Shakespeare's 'Othello' to the Indian screen, set against the rustic backdrop of Uttar Pradesh.Among all the performances, Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of Langda Tyagi, the Iago of 'Othello', became iconic. Khan's cunning, manipulative, and layered performance left a lasting impression on audiences and critics alike. Nearly two decades later, Langda Tyagi remains a beloved character, frequently referenced in popular culture, and continues to hold a special place in Indian cinema.Now, almost 20 years later, reports suggest that the makers are planning a spin-off centred around Langda Tyagi. A Pinkvilla report reveals, “The character of Langda Tyagi by Saif Ali Khan has stood the test of time, as it continues to find a mention in the pop-culture every few months. 19 years later, based on the love given to the part from the audience, producers Kumar Mangat and Abhishek Pathak are all set for a spin-off to Langda Tyagi. The duo came across an idea that organically leads itself to the world of 'Omkara', and more so, Langda Tyagi.”The project is currently in the scripting stage, with filming reportedly planned to begin in 2026.While the spin-off is confirmed, it is not yet clear if Saif Ali Khan will reprise his iconic role. The report added, “That’s a secret, which will unravel once the script is locked. Saif Ali Khan might just make a return to the world of 'Omkara', or the makers could rope in a young actor to play the part, making it a reboot in true sense.”Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan was last seen in 'Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins', a high-octane action thriller released on OTT, where he starred alongside Jaideep Ahlawat. The film was directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal.Next, he is set to star in Priyadarshan’s 'Haiwaan', which will also mark a reunion with Akshay Kumar.
