The foods you eat can have an impact on the health and appearance of your skin, both good and bad. There's a lot of misinformation around what foods can cause breakouts. Is acne caused by chocolate? Or fast food? Or sugar? In this video, dermatologist Margareth Pierre-Louis talks about some of the most common acne-causing foods that you can limit (or cut out completely) from your diet. She also discusses foods that can actually help prevent breakouts and keep your skin healthy and clear.
Foods that are high in sugar content. Foods that are high in fat, especially things like milk, naturally even partial milks like the 2% milks, those tend to be triggers for acne. I've had patients tell me that even chocolate can trigger their acne. And then definitely very cheesy or other high content foods. What we know can help acne? We know that foods that are high in antioxidants can help. Foods that are rich in vitamin A. Potassium. Those things can help stabilize the oil glands so that you can have an even complexion without the acne breakouts.
