Hetmyer's Last-Ball Six Seals Record Chase for Seattle Orcas Against MI New York
Shimron Hetmyer's stunning display of power hitting propelled the Seattle Orcas to a thrilling victory over MI New York in a high-scoring encounter in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. The Orcas secured a dramatic three-wicket win, chasing down a record-breaking target of 238 with a six off the final ball.
Hetmyer's unbeaten 97 off just 40 balls, including 5 fours and 9 sixes, was the defining performance of the match. He showcased exceptional composure under pressure, ultimately dispatching Kieron Pollard's final delivery over the boundary to secure the win.
Earlier in the match, MI New York had set a formidable target of 237/4, largely thanks to a blistering innings from captain Nicholas Pooran. Pooran smashed an unbeaten 108 off 60 balls, supported by Tajinder Dhillon's explosive 95 off 35 deliveries.
Despite the onslaught, Seattle Orcas bowlers Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers managed to grab two wickets each, briefly slowing the scoring rate.
Seattle's chase got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets in the powerplay. However, Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) launched a counterattack, bringing the Orcas back into contention. Heinrich Klaasen added a quickfire 26 off 13 balls before falling to Rushil Ugarkar.
Then came Hetmyer's heroics. With the required run rate increasing and wickets falling, Hetmyer took charge. His incredible innings, characterized by powerful hitting and calculated risk-taking, shifted the momentum decisively in favor of Seattle.
Facing Pollard with five runs needed for victory on the last ball, Hetmyer executed a perfect flick over fine leg, sending the Seattle camp into jubilation.
"This one is one of the best, because our backs were against the wall," said Hetmyer, who was named Player of the Match. "Today is one of those days, where I went with a clear mind and wanted to take the game as deep as possible."
