
Former Indian all-rounder Amita Sharma has been appointed as the chairman of the women’s selection panel, replacing Neetu David. The announcement was made at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Sunday, September 28, in Mumbai. David had been serving in the role since 2020.
Sharma will be joined on the panel by Shyama Dey, Jaya Sharma, and Sravanthi Naidu. Their tenure will officially begin after the Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2.
The Women’s Premier League committee will be headed by Jayesh George as Chairperson. The members include Mithun Manhas, Rajeev Shukla, Devajit Saikia, Prabhtej Bhatia, A. Raghuram Bhat, Madhumati Lele, Sanjay Tandon, R.I. Palani, and Arun Singh Dhumal.
Amongst them, Mithun Manhas, also a former Delhi cricketer, will also take charge as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), replacing Roger Binny, whose tenure ended after the age of 70.
Born on September 12, 1982, Amita Sharma is a former Indian cricketer who played as a right-arm medium-fast bowler and lower-order right-handed batter.
Her international career spanned from 2002 to 2014, during which she featured in five Test matches, 116 ODIs, and 41 T20Is for India.
In ODIs, she scored 926 runs at an average of 16.8, with a highest score of 51 not out. With the ball, she claimed 87 wickets at an average of 32.5, including best figures of four for 16. In T20Is, she scored 383 runs at an average of 14.7 and took 16 wickets, averaging in the mid-30s.
In Test cricket, she registered a half-century with a top score of 50 and took 5 wickets across her 5 appearances. Domestically, Sharma plied her trade for Railways, Assam, and Delhi.
