Garbage collection is one of the most important and under-appreciated services we enjoy today. Garbage collectors need to be physically fit, capable of driving trucks, and happy to work long hours, including very early morning or late night shifts. By creating a resume, applying to a waste management facility, and following up with the company after your application, you will raise your chances of becoming a garbage collector.

Preparing to Apply

  1. Step 1 Receive a high school diploma or a GED.
    In order to become a garbage collector with your local waste management company, you must first receive the proper education. Although most garbage collection positions do not require formal training, and will give you the necessary experience once you begin, you must first obtain a high school diploma or an equivalent with a GED diploma.[1]

  2. Step 2 Begin a consistent workout routine to get into good physical shape.
