India batter Jemimah Riodrigues has brushed aside concerns about her form in the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025. Rodrigues hasn’t had a good beginning to the tournament, having registered scores of 0 and 32 in the two innings so far against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively.
The right-handed batter scored a brilliant 66 (68) against England in India’s first warm-up fixture ahead of the tournament but has failed to carry her form into the mega event. However, Rodrigues isn’t too concerned about her individual scores as long as she’s doing the job for her team. She also mentioned the tough conditions she has batted in so far.
“I mean the first match, the bowling was very good, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything more in that match, in the second match, if you see I had a partnership of I think 47 runs with Harleen. So, I'm not looking at my individual score, look at the team score. The wicket was challenging; we took the time and gave the team a foundation so that we could reach 250 because the wicket wasn’t that easy,” said Rodrigues in the pre-match press conference.
Furthermore, she also mentioned that if her mindset is right, performances will follow themselves.
“So, I'm not thinking about my own score, my only approach is that I want to do whatever it takes for the team over there, and if I do that and my mindset is right, I know performance, everything will follow. But I want to make sure I do my job for the team first,” she added.
The Indian top order has failed to make a good contribution in the tournament so far and have been rescued by the middle and lower order. As the Women in Blue prepare to take on South Africa in their next fixture in Visakhapatnam, they would hope for an improved show by their famed batting unit, especially opener Smriti Mandhana, who’s yet to leave her mark in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Jemimah was seen sweating it hard in the nets ahead of the crucial fixture as India finalised their preparations in the nets at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
