The veteran opener was once again the centre of attention at at a recent award night in Mumbai, but for a light-hearted moment involving wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. Sitting beside teammate Shreyas Iyer, who is also India’s vice-captain for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, Rohit was seen sharing a good laugh as Samson walked past their table. Moments later, the 38-year-old hilariously mimicked Samson’s walk, imitating it with exaggerated robotic movements that had Iyer in stitches. The playful exchange, caught on camera, quickly went viral on social media, with fans calling it “classic Rohit humour.” The light-hearted relationship between the players stood out at the event, which was otherwise an evening of recognition and reflection. He credited former head coach Rahul Dravid and the team’s collective mindset for the turnaround. “Look, I love that team, loved playing with them and it's a journey that we were all into for many years,” Rohit said. “We'd come so close to winning that trophy many times but we couldn’t just get over the line.
