Rishabh Pant's Somersault Celebration: Doctor Reacts with "Unnecessary!"
Rishabh Pant's dynamic batting display in the first Test against England, highlighted by two centuries, was somewhat overshadowed by his post-century celebration. The flamboyant Indian cricketer performed a somersault after reaching his hundred, a move that has since ignited debate.
Rishabh Pant celebrates his century with a cartwheel.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who played a crucial role in Pant's recovery following a severe car accident in December 2022, shared his thoughts on the viral celebration. In an interview with The Telegraph, Dr. Pardiwala acknowledged Pant's athletic abilities, stating, "Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practised and perfected move — unnecessary though!"
Pant's return to cricket has been remarkable. The near-fatal accident, which occurred while he was driving from Delhi to Roorkee, resulted in multiple injuries and sidelined him for an extended period.
Against England, Pant showcased his exceptional talent, scoring a blistering 134 in the first innings and following it up with a solid 118 in the second. Despite his valiant efforts, India fell short, failing to defend a target of 371, ultimately losing by five wickets.
Pant's record in England is a testament to his ability to thrive in challenging conditions. In 10 Tests, he has amassed 808 runs at an average of 42.52, including four centuries and two half-centuries, with a highest score of 146.
